| Wardang Island - Rocky Island
This island, as the name depicts, is a very rocky island and is situated between Port Victoria and Wardang Island. Be wary of rocks in the waters around this island, so it pays to stay south of the navigation buoys. The Deep Channel can vary in depth dependant of the current and tide, and it runs all the way to Wardang Island jetty.
Though the channel varies in depth between 6 to 12 metres, it can produce snook, salmon trout and tommies. Very good whiting holes can be found about 100 metres SW of the western buoy. If your boat has an echo sounder, use it to help find the drop off points of the holes.
When fishing this area, it pays to berely well with crushed cockles, pellets and little tuna oil. Even though it can be tempting, night boat fishing in this area is not recommended, as there is a fairly strong rip, and you are exposed to the south west. |
