| Venus Bay
This area offers clear water, idyllic surroundings and no shortage of fish. However, the amateur boatman must stay within the sheltered confines of the bay and not venture out into the open sea. Waves at the entrance can be huge.
Seaward of the jetty, before the first beacon, the patches will usually yield all the whiting, flathead and snook you require. In fact, almost anywhere in the bay you can catch those three species, plus salmon, trevally, sweep, as well as garfish and tommies near the surface.
Many boatmen only bother launching once. Overnight, they moor their craft to anchored tyres on the beach, its quite safe, and only a few strides to wade out in the morning. The ramp itself, near the jetty, is a little shallow for larger craft, and a good tide is necessary, otherwise the hull can scratch on the stony bottom. |
