Eugene with a Snapper from Cape Jervis

Eugene caught this huge 10 kilo snapper off Cape Jervis, around dawn, on a dodge tide. Water flow and conditions on a dodge tide around Cape Jervis are not as rapid as they seem to be during normal tidal flows in this area.

This snapper was caught using a Paternoster Rig, with two single 5/0 hooks, 8 kg main line, 25 kg trace, 400 gms of weight and strips of squid for bait. It took Eugene around 25 minutes to land this sucker.

Notice the pronounced "hub" nose on this beast. This is usually prevalent in older and larger variety of snapper that's caught in this area.

Eugene was lucky to bring this beast in, as upon inspecting his catch and hook up, it was noticed that the snap swivel latch had been bent open, and the 5/0 hook had actually grabbed the inside membrane of the snapper's mouth, rather than thru the lip. Eugene must have some Irish blood in him !
