| Orontes Bank
A long run from Glenelg - approximately 41 km, but not so far from Port Vincent, and it provides great angling in calm waters. Slack or dodge tides are the best times to fish, drifting along the edge of the bank.
Us sinkers and a bunch of cockles on your hooks and you'll be gauranteed a catch of snapper, flathead and the occasional big whiting. Red Mullet are also abound, but they can be a nuisance if fishing for the elite species of snapper and whiting.
Many big game fishermen anchor up on the bank in quest of the white pointer - not a good area to cool off and swim !
This ground is too dangerous for the small boat at night, because of the variable sea conditions and strong tidal rip. Inshore of the beacon is usually abundant with snook. Quite frequently, when the small snapper are biting, it is common to bring up multiple double headers.
To reach this area, steer 290 deg. from Glenelg and you'll hit the beacon spot on, provided you take into account the sea and wind conditions. |
