Baiting Hooks - Whole Pilchards with Ganged Hooks

Using a ganged rig is ideal for surf fishing. A flight of ganged hooks helps support the pilchard for the entire length of its body, and the likelihood of the bait falling apart during a cast is minimised.

This is particularly handy in situations where a pilchard is cast and retrieved regularly for the likes of salmon or snook from the rocks.

Step 1

Lay the flight of hooks along the pilchard so that the top hook is level with the fish's eye.

Step 2

Mark (with a thumbnail) the approximate position of the bottom hook.

Step 3

Insert the hooks, ensuring that the bait lays flat.
