Comments :  This is an area worth trying for large whiting - you won't get lots (20+), but always a good size. We call it Bazz's ground. You don't have to be right on the marks, try 100m radius. We have also picked up mackeral and snapper. This is at the south end of the Island.

[JWR] .......... Clarries is a sunken trawler about 10 or so kilometers off Glenelg. If you have marking for Freds ground - well Clarries is about another 2 k's out to the SW. Keep a look out for a group of boats. The wreck is actually in 2 pieces. Excellent fishing ground - snapper, whiting, trevalley to name a few.

[Lizard] .......... Sounds like it may well be the same spot then . The depth of the ground I have been told is about 28 metres deep. Is this around the depth of Clarries ? I'll just have to keep preying for the marks for this ground !

[George] .......... A relative has dived it and surveyed it and tells me that the wreck referred to appears to be one complete boat, and a hull (topsides)section from a second boat.

[GFC - John Winslet] .......... As I understand it Clarries is the Claris. There are three parts to the ground, a whole large steel boat, a part of a ship, and a reefy foul ground south of the boat which is SW of the other piece. It lies in 25mtrs at high tide and is aprox. 9nm from West beach.

This place at it's peak can turn on 30-35 pound monster snapper, 50 cm whiting and white pointers. On a good day it can produce rugger snapper around the 40 - 55 cm mark, mackeral, small trevally, gurnard, ling, flathead, garfish, huge stingrays, hammerhead and bronze whaler sharks and then for the other eight months of the year nothing but chow and leatherjacks.

Please note this ground is a long way out from Glenelg and finest weather is a must for vessels under 18ft. White's are frequent visitors during snapper season and believe me they do pose a threat to small vessels.

Be careful with Easterly winds as it appears calm as you leave shore but by the time you are 16 kms offshore you can face a 1- 1.5 mtr head on wave and a two hour pounding trip home. This is also not far from the shipping route to outer harbour so be alert at night or in poor visability for Shipping.

[GFC - John Winslet] .......... I would like to thank Eugene and Mario. These marks WILL hold whiting at the moment until end of winter and at night are well worth a try for snapper. Afternoon incoming is best at present.

[alex] .......... was fishing at port neill recently and they sunk about a 30ft boat at the outer car bodies. Fished there the next morning for 4 snapper which suprised me. These coordinates will get you very close - suggest you sound for the boat as you won't miss it.

[alex] .......... fished the Uncles the day previous and had huge success at sunup (5:30-7:30) with 12 snapper from legal to 4kg and as many snook as you wanted. We were trolling small lures for them and were hooking them easily. Also caught a 5ft whiskery shark.
